J&J subsidiary LTL Management filed a bankruptcy plan in New Jersey late on Monday that describes how the company plans to pay different kinds of cancer victims as part of the bankruptcy settlement. Hyperbole did not go unnoticed: victims’ lawyers call it the largest “fraudulent transfer that has occurred in United States history.”
Despite the legal jargon, J&J does not really think this bankruptcy will survive. But it’s a way to push for this $8.9 billion settlement to keep pressure on plaintiffs.

J&J has now offered that it will pay $8.9 billion to settle any lawsuits.
The funders’ involvement is made public due to the New Jersey court rule requiring the release of certain details about funders outside the state.
