April 10, 2023 update: Bloomberg has an interesting article on a new law of New Jersey that is shedding new light on litigation funding in the Class action suit. Funders of litigation Virage Capital Management and TRGP Capital invested in hundreds of claims that were brought against Johnson & Johnson (J&J) over talc products in exchange for a percentage of any winnings. J&J has now offered to pay $8.9 billion in settlements for all lawsuits.

The funders’ involvement is publicly available due to the New Jersey court rule requiring the disclosure of certain information regarding outside funding backers. This rule is intended to address the growing calls for regulation of litigation funders.
